Petite Sirah comes from a past as dark as the wines it produces. Neither petite nor Syrah, this grape took hold of California vineyards in the late 1880’s, and today, is widely used as a blending grape, especially in the classic Zinfandel field blends. Revealed through DNA fingerprinting, Petite Sirah plantings in California are recognized as Durif, a French variety that produces rich wine with lush blueberry and spice notes and incredible color in the glass. Planted in 2000, the grapes that comprise the Terra d’Oro Petite Sirah are handpicked from the winery’s twelve acres of Petite Sirah vineyards located in Burke Ranch. For eleven years prior to harvest, the vines develop, mature and receive special care which results in highly-concentrated, quality fruit. The Terra d’Oro Petite Sirah is complex with rich body and bold flavors.
